RING announcer Carl Haffenden is hopeful he will wrestle at Ironfist Wrestling Academy's show in August.

Family commitments and a niggling injury has meant that Haffenden has had to bide his time in getting a spot on one of Ironfist's premier events.

But the event at the Black Lion on August 15 is geared towards the company's fledging stars to show what they can do.

"I have been training, but it's been on and off because of family commitments and having a niggling injury," said Haffenden.

"But hopefully that's getting better and hopefully by the time we get back to training a bit more, I'll be stepping up.

"We've got the trainee show coming up on August 15, so hopefully I'll be in the ring then wrestling as well."

Haffenden has been with Ironfist for nearly a year and a half and was asked to be the ring announcer due to his tannoy announcement duties at Tesco, where he works.

"It's good fun and the crowd help me get through it," he said.

"I do have a template that I try and go by, but it's not always that simple, especially with things like the weather, so it's about improvisation."

Haffenden added that anyone who has a passion for wrestling is more than welcome to contact Ironfist Wrestling.

"There's always hidden gems about, if you've got the passion for the business, then give it a go," he said.

"Everyone has got their own goal, whether you want to do ring announcing or be a manager, come and speak to us, or if you want to wrestle, then train with us.

"The British scene of wrestling is picking up at the moment.

"It's not as hot as it used to be, like in the World of Sport days, but in my opinion, it's the best type of live entertainment you can have."
