HEREFORD Ollie Farr missed the halfway cut at the USA?Open - but he still finished ahead of golfing great Tiger Woods.

The 27-year-old shot rounds of 73 and 77 at the Chambers Bay Course in Tacoma, Washington, finishing 119th overall on 10-over par.

He was five shots away from qualifying for the next stage.

Woods, a two-time winner of the event, in 2000 and 2008, carded a 16-over par score to miss the cut for the first time since 2006.

Farr said: "The course was great, though it was tough around the greens, but I didn't expect anything different at the US Open.

“I hit the ball great for two days but it just didn't happen for me on the greens. However it was phenomenal experience and one that I won't forget in a hurry.

"There was a fantastic atmosphere and I loved every minute of it on a course that tests every part of your game, body and mind. Now it’s onto the next one now, Germany this week."

Farr, who earned €3,578 at Chambers Bay, was heading to the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany this week with the event starting today (Thursday) for his next test in a promising European Tour debut season.

The highlight of Farr's season so far is his joint 27th place and a €43,750 pay day at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

American Jordan Spieth won the US open on a dramatic final day to follow his Masters tournament victory in April. The 21-year-old, now ranked second in the world behind Rory McIlroy, is halfway towards an unprecedented calendar grand slam after winning his second major in succession.
