A NEW pacing series to support grassroots harness racing in the Wales and West gets underway this Sunday afternoon at Broadheath Common in Presteigne.

The series will see 25 local horses race against each other to chase the accolade of Wales and West Pacing Champion.

There will be a total of 12 events over the next four months, all with a first prize of £400.

Other venues range from Allensmore to Amman Valley, and from Cilmery to Ceredigion.

Last year’s Wales and West champion trainer and driver David Bevan has one horse entered, Beacons Spellbound, and he will be one of the favourites with two early wins under his belt in 2015.

Other notable entries include three from the sponsor of the series, Roy Sheedy and Wellfield Stud, and three from Colin Bevan from Llangammarch Wells.

The tournament will conclude at Almeley on Sunday, September 27 where the top horse and driver will be crowned.
