BEN Morris emerged top dog at Leominster Golf Club’s Hopbine Running Stableford.

He scored 41 points for the best single card over 18 holes to land the trophy in a competition that attracted over 100 entrants.

Dan White (72 points on countback) was best over 36 holes, Ross Hurley (102 on countback) over 54 and Merrick Taylor (131) over 72

The lowest gross 18-hole score was Simon Morgan’s 74.

Other winners during a busy spell at the club were Craig Brimmell (38 points) in the Captain’s (Chris Dixon) Drive In, with Kevin Gibbons (37) second and Ed Jones (36 on countback) third, and Tim Suff (36 points) in the Tom Bishop Cup. Suff beat Andy Beavan (34) into second spot with Chris Chadd (33) third.

New seniors’ captain Terry Carver also helped Leominster to victory in a Round Robin event against Sapey GC, Ross GC, The Worcestershire GC and Ross GC.

They won five, halved one and lost two of their eight games to retain the trophy.

Their final match was a 6-2 win over Ross.

The first official club night saw Ian Gullis (Division One), Tom Morris (Division Two) and Will Mee (Division Three) finish at the front as 47 players completed nine holes, and the following week the respective winners were Jamie Mee, Pete Morris and Keanu Barnett as 71 players took part.

In the Seniors’ Captain’s Drive-in and April Medal, the honours went to Jimmy Lindsay in Division One, Pete Sandall in Division Two and Mike Barrington in Division Three.
