ROSS Golf Club’s final men’s event of the winter season proved a real generation game as top senior Roger Morgan pipped teenage tyro Cam Haines by just one shot.

The in-form senior managed to stave off the challenge of the highly-talented 15-year-old Haines, a product of the Ross club’s junior academy under the tutelage of head professional Tim Hall and his School of Golf team.

A total of 112 members took part in a medal competition in excellent playing conditions, and Morgan beat Haines by virtue of dropping just four shots on the back nine. He carded six pars for a round of 66, with Haines, after an exceptional front nine, finished on 67, a total that included 13 pars. Both trimmed their handicaps by two shots in the process, Morgan now down to 17 and Haines to an impressive nine.

Mike Merrick with a nett 69 was third, followed by David Higdon, Chris Tweedale, Shaun Reynolds and Kevin Powell with nett 70s. Those carding 71 scores were Geoff Evans, Richard Brown, Colin Bennion, Matthew Blythe, David Williams and Mike Evans.
