A BOXING promoter who runs a club near Little Hereford said he was overwhelmed by the support he received following a successful international show.

Martin ‘Paddy’ Brennan, who runs Paddy Boxing Academy and Fitness Centre in Bleathwood, held an England versus Ireland contest at Tenbury High School last Friday night.

England won 7-3 in front of a packed audience, with a repeat show set to take place in Donegal on November 7.

Martin ‘Paddy’ Brennan, who helped organise the show, said he was overwhelmed by how well the evening went.

“It went a lot better than I thought,” said Brennan.

“There were some really close decisions and some fantastic boxers.

“There are some staunch boxing people who have followed me in the last six years and I am overwhelmed.”

Peter O’Donnell, president of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, added that he wants the contest to be a regular thing.

“Everything about the whole show was fantastic and we were treated unbelievably,” said O’Donnell.

“I would love to come back again next year."

Niall Farrell, the victorious England captain, added that the show gives amateur boxers an opportunity to showcase their skills.

“You don’t get shows like this anywhere and I loved every bit of it,” he said.

“If any more like this come along, I’m willing to snap their hand off.”

Farrell toppled Liam Callaghan, with Ireland skipper Daniel Duggan losing out to Elliott Geddes.

Other England victories included Reece Speechley beat Ruaidri McElhenney, Charlie Annetts overcoming Kenan Gibson and Callum Blockley coming out on top against Lee Boyd.
