IF you think you could be the next Jose Mourinho an open evening at the Robert Owen Academy could be the place to start.

The Football and Education Programme, run by Herefordshire charity United in the Community, is accepting applications from 16-18 year-olds who have an interest in coaching and playing football.

The two-year course, taught at the Robert Owen Academy, is led by education tutor Adam Jones and former Hereford United player Rob Purdie.

Jones said: “If you decide to join us we will challenge you in many different ways in the classroom and build your confidence so you are ready to go onto university, an apprenticeship or employment.

“You will not just be a number. We will strive to make you a better person.”

The course is full-time, with 12 to 15 hours per week in the classroom and eight hours of football training.

The open evening will be held at 5.30pm on April 16 at the Robert Owen Academy on Widemarsh Street, Hereford.

The UITC team are currently sixth in the PLFL Under-19 Development League and were due to play Bury yesterday.

Purdie, who coaches the team, believes the team need to instil a winning mentality to ensure they can progress further.

"The only thing we've got to tweak with is, which I think is a bit of a problem in England at the moment, is that you have got to win football matches," said Purdie.

"They have got ability but sometimes they haven't got that bit extra to say, come on let's get together and win the game."
