HEREFORD Wheelers opened their 2015 race season with the Weobley 19 Sporting time trial.

A total of 20 riders took part on a cool and blustery morning, with Steve King coming home first in a time of 49 min 53 secs.

King, who rides for Rotherwas-based NFTO, beat nearest challenger Jon Tetley by 28 seconds.

Tetley is a member of Hereford Wheelers, with junior wheeler Ceri Middleton coming home third in a time of 52.19.

Both Tetley and Middleton improved their times by more than two minutes from last year's race.

Middleton was sixth in last year's event that was won by Paula Moseley.

The woman's race was won by Wheeler Katie Price in 58.38, with fellow Wheelers Sarah Lloyd-Stephens and Debbie Clark finishing second and third respectively.

Lloyd-Stephens' time was 59.12, while Clark finished in 1.12.04.

The season's next race is the popular three up, 35 mile time trial at Allensmore this Sunday.

The event will start at 9.30am.
