A TEAM full of ex-Hereford United players drew 2-2 with a supporters' team at Westfields' allpay.park ground this afternoon - in front of 715 spectactors.

Steve Guinan, the Bulls' record Conference goalscorer, staged the match in aid of Children with Cancer UK.

His team was managed by Graham Turner, with Pete Beadle taking charge of the supporters' side.

Paul Parry, Rob Purdie, Luke Graham, Stuart Fleetwood, Jamie Pitman and Tony James were just some of the ex-players who took part in the game, played on a sunny afternoon.

But it was the supporters' side who raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Tom Gameson and Jack Tomlinson.

But Purdie reduced the deficit after 31 minutes before Kris Taylor levelled six minutes later.

The second half was a quiter affair, with a number of substitutions made.

Guinan said he was delighted with the turnout.

"I didn't think there was going to be that amount at all," he said.

"I even thought a couple of hundred was pushing it, so to get that sort of attendance is astounding and proves what guinine human beings there are in Hereford and they want a football team to support.

"Hopefully the FA will take notice."

Hereford FC chairman Jon Hale, along with other club representatives, was in attendance, as was ex-Bulls defender Ryan Green, who had to pull out of the game due to a groin injury.

An auction was held after the game, with a signed Eden Hazard Chelsea shirt going for £250.

Other raffle prizes were two Steve Guinan Hereford United shirts, signed Aston Villa and Wolverhampton wanderers tops and a Jarrod Bowen Hull City shirt.

A signed Carl Froch boxing glove went for £180.

There will be more about this afternoon's game, including pictures, in Thursday's Hereford Times.
