KINGTON Town manager Shaun Harris was pleased with a point which sees his side move up to fourth in the West Midlands League Division Two table after a 1-1 draw with visiting Malvern Town under-21.
‘We always knew Malvern were going to be strong, and this was definitely the case," he said.
"I honestly believe this was a hard earned draw for both teams.
"Malvern were by far the best team we’ve played this season, two months ago we would have struggled in a game like that but now I feel we’re competing with everyone and can push on in the league."
Kington were without strikers Daniel Stack and Aaron Hodge, but made the breakthrough came on the half-hour when Nick Evans was brought down and a penalty awarded.
Joe Mayglothling coolly slotted home from the spot.
Evans (hamstring), Brian Dyer (ankle) and Mayglothling (elbow to the head) all suffered injuries in the lead-up to half-time.
But the home side held on until the 80th minute when the Malvern right winger cut in and placed his shot past Zeke Vivian’s outstretched arm and into the bottom corner.
In a frantic final 10 minutes, Malvern had some of the better chances but both teams still caused each other trouble.
