ROSS Rowing Club had a repeat double success to enjoy at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

The club retained their junior team award with their women's under-14 squad while GB rowing cox Morgan Baynham Williams was again named senior female sportsperson of the year.

"It was another incredible night for the club," said Ross Rowing Club president Ian Howell.

"To win both nominations for the second year running is truly exceptional, I guess it underlines what an truly exceptional performance environment we have created at Ross, which then results in us being consistently represented at these awards.

"We were truly stunned to be the winners two years in a row for both nominations.

"It is a fantastic recognition of the incredible hard work of these brilliant athletes"

Also celebrating were Hereford Roller Girls, who were named Community Club of the Year.

"On the track we’ve had quite a season," said Zoe Butler, club chairman and head coach. "We’re unbeaten, have rocketed up the rankings and have made it to the national finals of the Heartland Series.

"We’ve been getting a lot of attention from the roller derby community but we are delighted that our achievements have been recognised and rewarded at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

"We are still having to explain to people what roller derby is, so to have it recognised at this level is amazing.

"Our A Team The Horror Bulls have only been able to achieve their success thanks to the hard work and dedication from everyone at the club, and the Community Club of the Year award recognises that.

"We’re so proud to win the award and we’d like to thank every single person who has supported us since we were established in 2011."
