PETE Wesson was the winner when Hereford Fly Fishing Club went to Draycote Reservoir near Rugby for their latest outing. The competition was to be fished to loch style rules which means fishing in front of a drifting boat.

All the local boats were anchored at the sheltered end of the lake in Toft shallows which gave a good clue to fish location.

It was difficult drifting among these anchored boats and the winning pair let the boat drift downwind towards the centre of the reservoir. They found fish taking flies off the surface and so used dry flies to good effect.

Wesson caught eight fish for 19lb 7oz while Peter Wyles was second with 17lb 12oz. Best fish went to Bob Hesketh - a fine rainbow of 3lb 8oz.
