LADS Club extended their unbeaten run in the West Midlands League Division One to four games as they edged out St Martins in a seven-goal thriller at the County Ground.

The Hereford based side were 4-1 up after 61 minutes only to concede two late goals.

And the visitors could have taken a point but for a missed penalty.

Lads Club player-manager Danny Moon said: “We were happy with today’s result .

“The lads have done superbly today considering we only had 13 available today.

“We seem to get more players available away than we do at home but, at the end of the day, it’s about winning and we’ll take a win all the time.”

Lads Club started the game well and could have scored after 12 minutes when Liam Jones had a goal disallowed after he headed in from a Jordan Burke free-kick.

They did take the lead two minutes later, however, when a cross-come-shot by Roy Jordan deflected off a defender and looped into the net.

“Roy’s been brilliant, he’s come down and he’s got some work to do to get himself fit but it’s the brain he’s got that passes on to the young lads," said manager Moon.

“It takes a lot of pressure off me and Andy McQuaid and the management team so he’s been second to none.”

Two minutes later, the St Martins keeper dropped the ball on to Steve Dixon which he put in the net only for it to ruled out for a foul, a decision which was overturned by the referee.

Lads Club did concede in first-half stoppage-time when St Martins striker Shaun Melusi scored after getting on the end of a neat one-two.

In the second half, Moon added a couple more to make it 4-1 before goals from Karl Bailey and James Durman for St Martins made it 4-3.

He said: “I’m always disappointed to concede two late goals because we’ve had three clean sheets this year and we should have had a clean sheet.

“We could have had double figures but, if we keep creating, the goals will come and we obviously have got to get ourselves correct not to concede."

It could have been worse for the home side as they conceded a penalty for handball, but Shaun Melusi fired it well over the bar.

Moon said: “I thought the penalty was very harsh – it looked very harsh.

“There’s a bit of karma to be honest and I just couldn’t see how the lad could get out of the way.”

Moon knows his young side well, having coached a lot of them since they were nine years old.

He said: “It could have been a lot more comfortable, but we’ve got a young side and we’ve scored four again.

“It’s the same players we’ve had down here for four or five years now.”

Moon himself has scored five in the last two games but he was keen to stress that he is only playing due to player unavailability.

They play Shenstone for the second time this season at the weekend and Moon is very confident of his side’s chances.

He said: “We’re not scared of playing anybody, because we’ve outplayed everyone.

“The Shenstone game earlier in the season was another one where we should have beaten them comfortably."
