EASTNOR gave their chances of avoiding relegation from Division Two of the Birmingham League a major boost with a crushing seven-wicket home win over Stourbridge.

"It was a win we needed with both of the bottom two, Halesowen and Water Orton, also winning," said spokesman Malcolm Hughes.

"We're still reasonably well-placed and we only need nine points from our final two matches to be sure of staying up."

Eastnor took full advantage of winning the toss and inviting Stourbridge to bowl.

Only opener Steven Game (10) reached double figures as the visitors struggled against the varied Eastnor attack with Stourbridge's meagre total of 54 coming from 34.4 overs.

If a couple of potential catches had not fallen into ni-man's land, the score could have been even smaller.

By far the biggest contributor to the Stourbridge score was extras, of which there were 25 with 22 wides.

After Sajid Ali (2-8) and Shahid Ahmed (2-20) has made the early inroads, Jabran Khalid, who took 4-1 in 28 balls, wrapped up the lower order.

Eastnor wasted no time in setting about their reply with Tareq Jamil cracking a couple of boundaries from the second over.

Although the home side lost three wickets during their pursuit of their target, Dave Waters held firm throughout and guided Eastnor home with an unbeaten 27, which included four boundaries.

Eastnor' position will become clearer after Saturday's match when a home win against relegation favourites Water Orton could secure their Division Two status.
