HEREFORD couple Lou and Mandy Haines proved to be the tops with a driver when they competed in the annual Hereford Lions Club charity golf tournament at Herefordshire GC.

Lou won the prize for the longest drive in the over-55-years-old category while Mandy won the same prize for the under-55s, beating all the men.

They are both members at Burghill and were competing in the foursome with Dan Daniels and Rob Smith, and got their names on the leader board as fourth placed team on 96.

Result: 1 Mark Sandford, Stuart Humphries, Eamon Croft and Dex Murgatroyd 101, 2 Angus Craig, Mike King, Mark Hines and Kevin Shorrocks 98, 3 Derek Craddock, John Hunt, Paul Merriman and Robbin Stanley 97.

The long running Lions golf day proved a great success despite heavy rain affecting afternoon play.

“It is one of the best supported charity tournaments in the region and our thanks are due to the golf club and all the local businesses who sponsor it each year," said joint organizer John von Anrep.
