FORMER Bulls' caretaker manager Pete Beadle and his ex-assistant Steve Jenkins will be getting involved in the Hereford United Supporters Trust (HUST) team.

Former strikers Trevor Benjamin, Steve Guinan and Peter Heritage, goalkeeper Wayne Brown, defender Alex Jeannin, and midfielder Scott Goodwin are keen to play for the side.

Former United media officer Jamie Griffiths, sports therapist Jonny Evans and former kitman Roger Lloyd will also be part of the set-up.

Ex-United trio Gareth Davies, Sam Gwynne and Jon Hill will be playing for the HUST team, with Beadle and Jenkins in the dug-out, in their opening match at Ledbury Town’s New Street ground on Monday, 7.30pm kick-off.

Beadle said: “I have spoken to Jenks and we are keen to get involved to show support for the rest of the team from last season.

“With everything that went on, Steve and I had a positive season with the youth team and then we took on the first team.

“The Aldershot game was a very special day for the club and what has happened since then has affected everyone who loves the club.”

He added: “It’s great to see Peter Heritage keen to get involved because he set up my first professional goal when we played for Gillingham.”

The HUST team are planning to become affiliated to the HFA, says organiser Chris Oleksy.

They will be playing against Worcester City at Malvern Town on August 3; Pegasus Juniors at Old School Lane on August 5; and a Mayor’s XI at Hinton on August 24.

Former Hereford United chief Graham Turner has agreed to manage the Mayor’s XI against HUST.

Former striker Benjamin says he is eying up the match against Worcester City and is keen to get some of his former team-mates involved.

“As a fan and a former player I am devastated about what has happened at Hereford United,” said Benjamin.

“Football is a business and there’s no feeling in it. It’s a shame and that’s why people fall out of love with football.”

Benjamin, who is now managing Newcastle United Women’s team, added: “I am not sure I could play a full match but I would like to come on for a few minutes.”

Ledbury Town spokesman Richard Thick said: “The club committee unanimously agreed to call off a fixture with Hereford United due to the ongoing problems at United.

“Ledbury Town want to support the supporters of Hereford United and we are delighted to have this fixture with the HUST team.

“There’s a base of people in Ledbury who are Hereford United supporters but, hopefully, this match will highlight the club’s issues to a wider audience.”

Entry will cost £3 adults, £2 concessions and £1 for under-16s. There will be a hog roast.
