SUPPORTERS Ruth and Andy Walkden missed Hereford United’s match at Eagley last Saturday – after the venue was switched to a ‘closed facility’.

“We are signed up to the boycott at home matches but we live only 10 minutes away from Eagley,” said Ruth, who runs the Northern Bulls' supporters' group.

“We were at the point of setting off when I read on Twitter that the match had been moved to a closed facility.

“Eagley are small, amateur football club and cricket is the sport which everyone thinks when you mentioned Eagley.”

Ruth, whose dad was the headteacher at Leintwardine school, has been supporting United for 42 years.

“My first Hereford United match was against Margate in the Southern League in 1972,” she said.

“But It feels like Hereford United is no longer our club. All the people we’ve known at the club have now gone.”

She added: “We will be coming down to Hereford in August and it will be strange to come to the city but not watch the football.”
