WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards is delighted with the impact his new signing Saul Halpin has made on his Midland Alliance side.

The Hartpury College student bagged a hat-trick in Saturday's 3-1 win at Loughborough University, to take his tally to six in a week.

"He's got a hell of a turn of pace and two good feet," said Edwards.

"He played exceptionally well on Saturday and really turned them inside out.

"It's all about finding a player like him who wants to play for you but can play at a higher level. He was playing for Bideford in the Southern League Premier Division at the start of the season."

At Loughborough, Westfields made a slow start and conceded several good chances before Halpin capitalised on good work by Carl Morgan and Sam Gwynne to turn quickly and fire home from 12 yards.

The students were back on terms after 32 minutes when Charlie Musselwhite crossed for Jack Beckett to finish from eight yards.

Halpin bagged his second on 55 minutes, shooting home after prompting from Craig Jones who was also involved when the marksman completed his hat-trick with a superb shot from the edge of the area.

Westfields looked like building on their win when they led 2-1 at home to Tipton Town on Monday night, only to concede an equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

"It's disappointing to concede so late and we have let in a lot of late goals this season," said Edwards. "But we didn't really deserve to win on Monday."

Alex O'Leary had put the city side ahead after only three minutes but Callum Martin shot the visitors level at the interval.

Westfields regained the lead when O'Leary headed in a Jamie Cuss cross midway through the second period but substitute Mark Swan saved a point for Tipton right at the death.

Westfields' punishing programme goes on tonight (Thursday) with a trip to Heath Hayes, one of seven league games - plus the HFA Challenge Cup final - which they must complete by April 26.

"I have my own business to run but at this time of the season it feels as if I'm a full-time manager," said Edwards.
