Wales boxers defeat England Select to win Hereford Times Cup at Wye Police ABC boxing show
8:32pm Sunday 17th March 2013 in Local By Ian Morgan
THERE were plenty of thrills and spills last night (Saturday) as Wales' boxers fought their way to the Hereford Times Cup.
A Wales team, managed by Colin Jones, secured a 5-4 win over an England Select team, run by Midland regional coach Alan Keast.
The glitzy England versus Wales dinner show took place at Hereford Sixth Form College and involved 14 fights on the card.
Three Wye Police ABC boxers, Niall Penson, Aaron Smart and Lee Jenkins fought in their home show, which included five exhibition bouts.
Smart and Jenkins both won with unanimous points decisions from the judges.
Penson made a promising debut but lost out on a unanimous points decision.
Boxers from the RAF and the Parachute regiment fought in the show which raised money for Combat Stress.
