Hereford 28 pts Lichfield 41 pts
HEREFORD picked up a try bonus point after Brad Talbot was red-carded after 30 minutes in yesterday’s home defeat against high-flying Lichfield in Midlands One West.
The Wyesiders showed a lot of spirit and determination, particularly in the second half, following Talbot’s dismissal for an alleged head-butt.
James Watters and Gareth Miles were sin-binned in separate first-half incidents, while two visiting players were also shown yellow cards in a feisty contest.
Third-placed Lichfield scored two converted tries which put Hereford under pressure from the early stages.
Lichfield were ruthless, cutting through weak tackling to score converted tries through Greg Massey and Richard Burton.
Talbot crashed over and Ben Osborne kicked the conversion but Brad Rowlands touched down for Lichfield’s third try.
After Talbot was sent off, Adam Knight dived over as Hereford trailed 21-14 before Watters and Miles were yellow-carded.
Brad Rowlands grabbed his second try, which Massey converted, to extend Lichfield’s advantage to 28-14.
Ben Hillstead scored a pushover try, converted by Dean Powell, but Lichfield hit back once more.
Will Cotterhill’s try and Massey’s penalty for the visitors put the result beyond doubt.
However, the impressive Nat Thomas touched down for Hereford’s fourth try.
Massey had the final word, kicking another penalty for the visitors, a minute from time.
