Bromyard Rugby Club beaten 12-10 by Tenbury in Midlands Four West (North) derby

Bromyard 10 pts Tenbury 12 pts BROMYARD Rugby Club’s players will be scratching their heads this afternoon wondering how they failed to win yesterday’s (Saturday) local derby at the Clive Richards Sports Ground.

Scott Holloway’s men fought back from 12-0 down after 34 minutes of this hard-fought Midlands Four West (North) clash - and probably deserved to win.

Centre Bazil Cross dived under the posts for a converted try in the 67th minute after a period of dominance from the home forwards.

And, then six minutes later, Bromyard looked certain to score again but Cross didn’t see an overlap on his right and was hauled down inches short of the Tenbury try-line.

Bromyard are third from bottom after seven defeats from 10 league matches and will be pleased with their spirit shown.

Promotion-chasing Tenbury led 12-3 at the interval but had Will Gough sent to the sin-bin on the hour as Bromyard dominated the second period.

Chris Rowberry, who slotted Bromyard’s first points on the stroke of half time, missed two penalties after the interval.

Ben King missed two first-half penalties for Tenbury, who took the lead when fly-half Andrew Wilkes touched down for an unconverted try after a close-range scrum.

Wilkes scored his second try in the 34th minute after gathering a neat chip ahead from King, who slotted the conversion.

Wilkes almost completed his hat-trick in the second-half but was hauled down a metre short of the line by the strong-tackling Tom Morris, who also raced back to deny King a try.
