Hereford produced a fighting display after a slow start in which they conceded two early goals.
Colin Amos reduced arrears but Plymouth restored their two-goal advantage and then Chris Bryne made a host of superb saves.
Hamish Cameron scored Hereford’s second goal, giving the visitors hope. But the unfortunate Broady rattled the woodwork.
Hereford’s Mixed team recorded a hard-fought 3-2 home win over higher-graded Cheltenham in the first round of the Mixed Trophy.
Cheltenham took the lead but Hereford replied strongly and Emily Tompkins levelled after a neat work from Andy Rogers.
Hamish Cameron put Hereford 2-1 ahead and they looked solid with Amos, Kyle Drew and Jonny Mundy in impressive form.
But Cheltenham equalised and Jess Lambert hit Hereford’s winner in extra time after a pull-back from Rogers.
Skipper Roger Keep played in goal for 10-man Hereford 3rd who picked up a point from a 0-0 draw at Cheltenham 5th in Hereford and Glos Division Two.
Stewart Goodarzi had a shot cleared off the line for Hereford who fielded some young players and deserved their draw from a battling performance.
Presteigne Ladies suffered their first league defeat in three-and-a-half years when they crashed 5-0 at Gowerton in the South Wales League Division Three.
Presteigne, who were without three key players, collapsed in the second period.
The hosts netted their opening goal in the first minute of the second half and powered to victory with four more goals. Sian Bull was Presteigne’s best player.
