Herefordshire county clubs' men's hockey round-up in Davis Wood League

MIKE Broady’s hat-trick led Hereford to their first success of the season – a 5-3 win at Firebrands 2nd in the Davis Wood Hockey League Premier Division 3.

Broady opened the scoring in the early stages and he bagged a second soon afterwards from a drag flick following a penalty corner.

The Bristol outfit reduced arrears early in the second period but Jonny Mundy restored Hereford’s two-goal cushion after Andy Rogers’ run and cross.

Firebrands scored two quick-fire goals to pull level but Broady’s penalty-flick restored Hereford’s advantage before Dale Door’s tap-in sealed their win.

Rob Goodman missed a late sitter in Leominster’S battling 2-2 draw with visiting NEWENT in North Division 1.

Ed Healey bagged a brace for Leominster who twice let their lead slip against the Gloucestershire side.

Both sides had a player sin-binned and, with the sides locked at 2-2, the normally reliable Goodman squandered a late chance.

Table-topping Ross maintained their superb start to the their Hereford & Glos 1 campaign with a 3-0 home success over LANSDOWN 2nd.

The south Herefordshire side have not conceded a goal in 280 minutes of league action.

Prolific marksman Adrian Williams put Ross ahead and he doubled their advantage soon afterwards with his 18th goal of the season.

Kristian Franklin and Richard Hitchiner hammered shots wide before Jamie Caulfield completed the scoring for a Ross side inspired by Thomas Walton.

HEREFORD 2ND secured their first win of the campaign – a 5-1 triumph over visiting GLOUCESTER CITY 3rd in the Severn Division.

Man-of-the-match Rich Edwards inspired Hereford, who had a slow start and conceded an early goal.

Duncan Tindle levelled after a good pass from Leo Mather before Hereford took the lead through Stewart Goodarzi.

Hereford increased their advantage after the interval when Matt Thomas fired home from the top of the D.

Liam Hayde notched a fourth goal from a short corner and Tindle rounded off the scoring after a fine move involving Ashley Moore and Steve Alderton.

HEREFORD 3RD fought back from an early setback to secure a 4-1 win at CIRENCESTER 4th in Hereford & Glos Division 2.

Skipper Roger Keep hauled Hereford level after a good run from Ben Thomas and Matt Fox slotted home the visitors’ second goal.

Dave Thomas bagged Hereford’s third goal and the experienced Tim Miller broke through to wrap up the points.

ROSS 2ND crashed to a 1-0 defeat at WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE.

Meanwhile, HEREFORD suffered a 3-2 defeat to higher-graded BRISTOL UWE in the EHA Men’s Trophy second round.

Broady netted both Hereford’s goals but it was a disappointing early exit for Hereford, who reached last season’s quarter-finals.
