HEREFORD Firsts were downed by Premier Division 3 promotion hopefuls Cardiff 2nd in a nine goal Davis Wood League thriller.
The city side were always chasing the game after falling two behind early on before Charlie Jones halved the deficit.
Hereford then pushed forward but Cardiff added another to restore the two-goal advantage.
They were given renewed hope when a penalty corner by Mike Broady was converted by Andy Rogers before the visitors found the net again just before the interval.
Rogers added his second after the break but a combination of injury and Richard Green receiving a second sinbin along with Jonny Mundy saw Hereford short of numbers and they went on to concede two more.
Another high-scoring clash saw Hereford 2nd keeper Chris Bryne put in a man-of-the-match display, although he couldn’t prevent the home side from surrendering the lead three times.
Duncan Tindle put them ahead against Llanishen & Caerphilly who were soon level.
The second half saw Matt Thomas restore the lead but a short corner brought the Welsh side level.
The see-saw battle continued with Stewart Goodarzi putting Hereford 3-2 ahead before a last-gasp equaliser saw the spoils shared.
Ross could not have started their Severn Division season any better with a 7-0 thumping of Cirencester 3rd.
The home side went on a second-half rampage, notching six goals without reply for an early-season confidence booster.
Adrian Williams gave them the first-half lead before adding three more while Thomas Walton, Sam Warner and Kristian Franklin were also on target.
A brace of goals just before the break threatened to send Ross 2nd to defeat against Cirencester in Herefordshire & Gloucestershire 2.
The goals cancelled out Brian Clare’s strike only moments earlier which gave the Herefordshire side a deserved advantage.
Ross slowly regained control and levelled when Andy Cross steered in a short corner from Tony Faulkner to make it 2-2.
A goal apiece from Josh Watkins and Robbie Goodman could not stop Leominster going down to a 5-2 defeat In North Division 1 at newly promoted Chippenham.
The scoreline could have been different had the Chippenham keeper not pulled off a fantastic save to deny Watkins in the first two minutes.
Dave Harvey and Ed Healey also had efforts saved as Leominster created a host of efforts but at the other end Chippenham converted their chances.
