FORMER England star Jason Robinson says he would rather put on a Fylde jersey than play in a Grand Slam decider.
The 36-year-old has been playing in home matches for Fylde, the runaway leaders of National League Two North.
He lined up against Herefordshire side Luctonians last Saturday and helped his side to a 34-29 success.
Robinson won the Grand Slam with England and scored the only try as the Three Lions also clinched the World Cup in Australia eight years ago.
“I have been there and done it for England and got the t-shirt so it’s now nice to invest time into Fylde,” said Robinson, who predicts New Zealand to triumph on home soil in this autumn's World Cup.
“I played in a Grand Slam decider in 2001 and lost and I played in 2003 and won.
“The England team that won in 2003 was a very settled team and had been in a few battles together. We got some good wins under our belt.
"I like this England team at the moment – I think there’s a good mixture but there’s a lot more work to do.”
Robinson shocked the rugby world last summer when he came out of retirement to play for Fylde.
“Initially, I didn’t see myself ever playing again but it’s worked and I have enjoyed it.
“I am enjoying my rugby and it’s different for me.
"There was a time when I was playing at the top level and it was all about winning, week in, week out.
“While we want to win at Fylde, I like the amateur feel to the game. I like the atmosphere and the crowds are healthy.
“I am not coaching officially but I am working with guys. They enjoy me being around and it’s nice for me to impart some of my knowledge.
“We’ve got fantastic coaches in Brian Ashton and Mark Nelson and they keep putting that carrot out in front of us and the boys keep have responded."
Robinson says he would like to play for Fylde again next season.
“I have enjoyed this year and I would like to carry on the relationship with the club," said Robinson.
Head coach Nelson, the former backs coach at Sale Sharks, wants to keep Robinson at Fylde for another year.
“We’re looking to put a package together that keeps Jason at the club. I think he’s a great ambassador for Fylde Rugby Club and also rugby union. I am doing everything I can to ensure he’s with us going forward.”
Nelson added: “Every player who has played against Jason at Woodlands this season will keep the match programme and say they have played against a World Cup winner. I think it’s good for the league that Jason plays here. He creates a lot of interest in this league.”
