HEREFORD are up to fourth place in Premier Division 3 of the Davis Wood League after withstanding a fightback at Cheltenham 2nd to run out 4-2 winners.
A goal from Joe Thomas plus a brace from man-of-the-match Colin Amos, the second a team goal involving six players, put Hereford into a commanding 3-0 lead. The home side scored twice before Davies slid in his second goal to seal the win.
Leominster consolidated their mid-table position in North Division 1 with two home draws over the weekend.
They came from behind three times in a 3-3 draw at home to second- placed Old Bristolians and also drew 1-1 with second bottom Gloucester on Sunday after the visitors had taken an early lead.
With striker Rob Goodman sidelined through injury, Josh Watkins scored some key goals, two on Saturday plus one on Sunday. John Davies scored the other.
Adrian Williams scored twice and man-of-the-match Tom Walton grabbed the other goal to help Ross beat visiting Cardiff & UWIC 4th 3-2 in their mid-table Severn Division clash. And this despite some of their squad opting to watch Hereford United’s cup-tie.
Ross rode their luck for much of the game but came from behind twice to win a tight game.
Hereford 2nd beat fellow contenders for the Herefordshire & Gloucester Division 1 title Gloucester City 3rd 2-1.
Hereford Ladies beat their local rivals Leominster 1-0 to open up a gap at the top of North Division in the West Clubs Women’s League.
The only goal of the game came from an audacious reverse-stick effort from Erica Rogers which flew into the top corner during the early stages of the second half.
Kate Holder produced an excellent save to keep Leominster in the match after Emily Tompkins had beaten the goalkeeper.
Rita Tomkins (3), Sioned Price (2) and Jess Goodwin scored in Presteigne’s 6-2 win over Aberystwyth University in the South Wales League.
And Goodwin (6), Price (4), Tomkins (3), Jody Owen-Evans (2), Tina Sparey and Pru Napolitano were on target in Presteigne’s 17-0 KBS League rout of Llandrindod/ Builth on Sunday.
