Leominster’s emphatic win over Hereford


Leominster recorded an emphatic 6-2 home win over rivals Hereford in Premier Division 3 of the N4 Financial Solutions West of England and South Wales League.

Charlie Jones and Richard Green scored the goals for Hereford who made a slow start and lost dangerman Colin Amos through injury after 10 minutes.

The Eastman brothers, Henry and Fred, were among the goal-scorers for Leominster in a hard-fought derby clash.

Jon Davis, Rob Goodman, Sam Morris and Mark Thorne were also on target for the north Herefordshire side who led 2-1 at the interval.

Leominster were much fresher than Hereford, who had played the previous day, and ran out comfortable winners.

Hereford remain nine points clear of the relegation zone, while Leominster are five points from safety.

The previous day, Hereford chalked up a 2-1 home victory over mid-table Cardiff UWIC 2nd.

Jones gave Hereford the lead and, although Cardiff hit back to draw level, Daiyle Door bagged the winner with 10 minutes remaining.

Hereford 2nd secured a 2-1 home victory over Leominster 2nd in a well-contested derby in Herefords & Glos 1.

Leominster took a deserved lead following a sweeping move before Angus Light hauled Hereford level after a well-worked short corner routine involving Matt Thomas.

Man-of-the-match Tom Clarke and Hamish Light went close to putting Hereford ahead and they eventually broke through when Hamish Light scored the winner.

Skipper Richard Brown hit six goals in Hereford 2nd’s 12-0 demolition of struggling Lydney 2nd, the previous day.

Hereford overwhelmed the home side and scored six goals in each half to seal an emphatic success.

While double-hat-trick-hero Brown took the plaudits for Hereford, Will Stevens (2), Joe Smith, Ashley Moore, Steve Owen and Thomas also found the net.

l HEREFORD 2nd slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Gloucester 2nd in Severn Division 1 of the West Clubs’ Women’s League.

They started strongly and dominated midfield in the first half but could not break through.

Mary MacLeod had a couple of powerful strikes well saved by the Gloucester goalkeeper.

Gloucester held firm and struck the decisive goal shortly before the interval.
