A TWO-goal display from Dwyn Jones fired Hereford Ladies to a 4-1 win at Burgess Hill in the second round of the Veteran Plate competition.
Pippa Cardy opened the scoring for Hereford with an accurate shot before the home side hit back with some pressure.
Clare Richards doubled Hereford’s advantage and then Jones made it 3-0 from a well-struck short corner.
Former Hereford player Gay Butterworth gave Burgess Hill hope when she reduced arrears but the visitors finished strongly.
Claire Annett and Ali Preece pushed forward from defence and Jones bagged her second goal to complete Hereford’s triumph.
Kington suffered a 1-0 home defeat to rivals Abergavenny in Division 2 of the South Wales League.
Winger Becca Haywood was in outstanding form for Kington who conceded a breakaway goal late in the match.
Tireless work by midfielders Beth Watson and Emma Turner kept the visitors at bay in a hard-fought first half.
Sian Morgan and goalkeeper Lisa Hughes frustrated Abergavenny after the break but the visitors’ pressure eventually told.
