A LATE goal sentenced title-chasing Ross-on-Wye to a 5-4 defeat at Cirencester 2nd in the N4 Financial Solutions West of England and South Wales League.
A brace from Phil Evans and goals from Tom Walton and Geraint Morris looked like securing table-topping Ross a hard-fought Herefords & Glos 1 point.
However, Cirencester won a corner shortly before the final whistle and scrambled home the winning goal.
Hereford 2nd slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Newent 2nd, also in Herefords & Glos 1.
Steve Alderton put Hereford ahead but Newent hit back to open up a 2-1 interval lead and the hosts made it 3-1 early in the second half.
Skipper Richard Brown gave Hereford renewed hope with their second goal, but the Gloucestershire side hit a fourth to clinch victory.
Leominster 2nd picked up a point from an exciting 3-3 home draw against Cheltenham 4th.
Stand-in goalkeeper Roger Keep produced a captain’s display in Hereford 3rd’s 3-0 home success over Sherborne 2nd in Herefords & Glos 2.
Fox, Marcus Betts and Stuart Volpe bagged the goals in Hereford’s confidence-boosting triumph.
Ross 2nd produced a subdued display and suffered a 4-1 reverse at Cleevillians 2nd, also in Herefords & Glos 2.
Ross drew first blood after 15 minutes with an excellent goal from Tom McCluskey after Adam Crouch’s superb cross.
But the home side hit back and were worthy winners at the final whistle despite Brian Clare’s solid debut and Seb Sullivan’s penalty save.
Leominster’s struggle to safeguard their Premier Division 3 status continued with a disappointing 3-2 reverse at East Devon.
The north Herefordshire side opened up a 2-0 advantage before half-time and appeared to be coasting to a vital win.
Goals from Rob Goodman and Henry Eastman had given Leominster a deserved cushion against a poor-looking home side.
However, East Devon improved in the second half and drew level after scoring from two short corners.
With Leominster pressing forward for the win, East Devon took advantage and broke the visitors’ hearts with a third goal.
Hereford also tasted defeat in Premier Division 3 after being thumped 6-0 at home by Plymouth Marjon 2nd.
