Kerry strike sets Hereford up for important hockey victory

A STRIKE from Rich Kerry gave Hereford a 1-0 home win over City of Bath in Premier Division 3 of the N4 Financial Solutions West of England and South Wales League.

Man-of-the-match Kerry pounced early in second half to hit the decisive goal after collecting a cross from Chris Weale.

Earlier, Bath were the stronger team in the opening stages and they rattled a post from close range.

But Hereford gradually imposed themselves and Colin Amos missed a great chance after a shot had been blocked on the line.

A penalty-flick from Rob Goodman was Leominster’s highlight in their 6-1 defeat at Torbay, also in Premier Division 3.

A rusty-looking Leominster were punished by a ruthless Torbay side who soon opened up a 3-0 advantage.

Goodman pulled a goal back from the penalty spot and he later missed a second penalty for the under-par visitors.

Phil Evans snapped up a last-gasp goal to give Ross-on-Wye a 2-1 home win over Cheltenham 4th in Herefords & Glos 1.

The south Herefordshire outfit were made to work hard by a spirited Cheltenham side who led 1-0 at the interval.

Ross created a succession of chances at the start of the second period and eventually drew level through Kristian Franklin.

Midfielders Tom Walton, Sam Warner and Nick Clark stepped up their game to try to carve out more opportunities for Ross.

Evans was the home side’s hero when he raced through the Cheltenham defence to rifle in the winner seconds before the final whistle.

Hereford 2nd were torn apart in the second half of their match at Gloucester City 3rd and crashed to a 6-1 defeat.

All the goals were scored after the break and newcomer Angus Light marked his second appearance with Hereford’s consolation.

Ross-on-Wye 2nd came from behind twice in their gritty 3-2 victory against Lansdown 4th in Herefords & Glos 2.

Lansdown went ahead inside 20 minutes but Ross hit back to equalise through Tom McLuskie after neat work between Andy Cross and Richard Stewart.

Lansdown regained the advantage but Richard Harbottle hauled Ross level before Sean Couch snapped up the winner.
