Skipper Rogers’ four goals in morale-boosting victory

Hereford needed a win to boost their confidence after a series of unconvincing displays in Premier Division 3 of the N4 Financial Solutions England and South Wales League.

They got exactly what they wanted with an eight-goal salvo against East Devon.

Skipper Andy Rogers led the way with four goals including two reverse-stick shots in the first 15 minutes.

Daiyle Door, Joe Thomas, Colin Amos and Ashley Moore, with his first goal for the first team, completed the scoring. Jim Wallis and a solid defence in front of him prevented any consolation reply from the visitors.

Leominster returned empty-handed from Devon following a 4-1 reverse against Plymouth University.

The students took an early lead with a goal from a short corner but the rest of the opening half proved to be a drab affair with few chances at either end.

The hosts scored a second on the resumption and Leominster responded by pushing a midfielder up into the forward line.

This resulted in a period of sustained pressure and David Mumford brought it back to 2-1 from a penalty corner.

Rob Goodman then spurned a chance to equalise with a rare miss from a penalty flick and Plymouth punished them on the break before completing a flattering scoreline from a penalty corner five minutes from time.

Ross-on-Wye cemented their position at the top of Hereford & Gloucester Division 1 with a hard-fought 4-1 win over Hereford 2nd.

Matt Saunders sent them into an early lead when he beat several defenders to score and fellow midfielder Tom Walton capitalised with two strikes from short corner routines to maintain his recent run of scoring.

Early in the second half Ross made it 4-0 with the best goal of the game.

Sam Warner picked up the ball just outside the “D” and sent it whistling into the top corner with a fine reverse-stick shot.

Hereford pushed Richard Wood up front to partner Richard Brown and Brown scored a deserved consolation goal with a shot into the bottom corner beyond Andy Ridgway.

Leominster 2nd led throughout an epic encounter but in the end had to settle for a 6-6 draw against visiting Newent 2nd.

Utility player Matt Styles and Harry Ellis both scored twice while Mark Thorne and Jack Rowsell were also on the mark as Leominster led 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4, 6-4 and 6-5 before Newent scored their only equaliser on the final whistle.
