Williams hammers in a treble for table-toppers

ADRIAN Williams scored a hat-trick for table-topping Ross in their 6-3 home win over Cirencester 2nd in Herefords & Glos 1 of the N4 Financial Solutions West of England and South Wales League.

A Tom Walton strike and two goals from man-of-the-match Williams gave the unbeaten leaders a 3-1 advantage early in the second period.

However, Cirencester hit back to level at 3-3 before Phil Evans, Williams and Sam Warner netted to secure Ross’ fourth victory in five matches.

Ashley Moore hit the winner for Hereford 2nd in a 2-1 home triumph over rivals Newent 2nd, also in Herefords & Glos 1.

The Gloucestershire club drew first blood after a decent start from Hereford but the hosts soon levelled after a quick break. Geoff Furneaux combined with Steve Owen to set up the chance for captain Richard Brown who scored at the near post.

Richard Wood, Tim Miller and Brown had chances to put Hereford ahead, while Pete Preece made a fine save to keep out Newent.

Hereford hit the winning goal with just 20 minutes remaining. Wood played a quick ball to Moore who surged forward and smashed home a powerful drive.

Leominster 2nd romped into an early 3-0 lead at Cheltenham 4th but had to settle for a point after the hosts clawed it back to 3-3.

Cheltenham’s goalkeeper produced an outstanding display and Leominster missed a series of excellent chances.

The hosts were fortunate to equalise when they scored a late third goal from a controversially-awarded penalty-flick. Ed Healey had put Leominster in front and then Harry Ellis struck twice to give the visitors a 3-0 interval advantage.

Ross 2nd extended their unbeaten run to four games after a 3-1 home win over lowly Newent 3rd in Herefords & Glos 2.

Richard Stewart put the south Herefordshire outfit ahead and then newcomer Tom McCluskie doubled their advantage soon after the restart.

Newent broke through the tight Ross defence to reduce the deficit before the hosts regained their composure.

Geraint Morris and Wilem Haagen tormented the visiting defence and Sean Couch scored their third to seal a third win for his side.

A goal from Stuart Volpe could not stop Hereford 3rd from going down to a 2-1 home defeat to Lansdown 4th.

Lansdown broke the deadlock against the run of play but Volpe hauled Hereford level on the stroke of half time.

Despite an impressive debut from Hereford left-back Leo Mattias, Lansdown snatched the points with a second goal.

Hereford crashed to a 5-2 defeat at high-flying Plymouth Marjon 2nd in Premier Division 3 and Leominster suffered a 4-1 home reverse to East Devon.

Leominster, who were missing five key players, paid the price for not making the most of eight short corners and some sloppy play.

Nicko Evans scored Leominster’s goal.
