A 55th-minute strike from Tim Miller gave Hereford a narrow home win over Bath Buccaneers in the first round of the English Hockey Veterans Cup (over 40).

Hereford were indebted in the first half to goalkeeper Pete Preece, who pulled off a series of fine saves.

Good defending from both sides kept the score blank until Miller put Hereford ahead when he deflected in a strong pass from Richard Edwards.

The final quarter-hour brought exciting play from both sides but Hereford’s defence remained firm to secure their win. Hereford have been drawn away to Plymouth Marjons in the next round on November 8.
