HEREFORD Hockley Club coach Andy Rogers says he expects a much tougher test for the team this season as they begin life in Conference North.

The city side, who pipped Wotton-under-Edge in the final game of last season to gain promotion from De Cymru and The Marches 1 start with a home game against Firebrand 2nd.

But Hamish Cameron, who scored a lot of goals last season, has moved on while Rogers admits he also won't be able to play as much due to work commitments.

"We have picked up one or two players and have some younger players coming through," said Rogers.

"Adam Reece is 15 and potentially will play for the seconds as goalkeeper so it shows that players are moving up.

"But we expect a tougher season and the gulf to be much bigger than last season."

Hereford go into the game on the back of a 3-2 friendly success over Ludlow, with their winner coming three minutes from time.

Leominster also play in Conference North and they kick off their season with a home game against Lydney.

Meanwhile, some of the county’s female teams started their league seasons last Saturday, but all were on the end of heavy defeats.

Hereford 2nd went down 6-3 to Gloucester 3rd in Severn Division 1, whileColwall & Malvern suffered a 7-1 hammering at Bourton & Sherborne.

Colwall's second team lost 5-1 to Gloucester 4th.
