HEREFORD continued their fine start to the season with a second straight win in Premier 2A of the West Clubs' Women's League, a 4-3 triumph at newly promoted Marlborough.

Hereford fell behind in the early stages but were quickly back on level terms thanks to one of captain Erica Rogers' trademark short corners.

The visitors took the lead with a strike from Saska Ingham after good work by Nat Hind.

Hereford were caught on the break as Marlborough drew level but, with some inspiration from player-of-the-match Amy Wilkins, Tia Taylor restored the lead.

The dogged Marlborough side fought back again, but fine work by Ingham and Tess Langford brought a second and, this time, decisive goal for Taylor.

"We have a new structure for coaching, training and player management now which has had such a positive effect on the club," said Rogers. "We are starting to see the rewards for the hard work and it is exciting."

In the North Division, Leominster produced a strong second-half display to see off visiting Westberries 4-1.

Sarah Nightingale broke through a solid defence to open the scoring at the end of the first period but there was still time for the visitors to level before the break.

In the second half, after clear instructions from skipper Kate Holder, Karen Hackley, with assists from Nina Emery and Emma Bradley, completed a hat-trick to ensure the victory.

Despite falling behind twice, Hereford 2nd battled back strongly to level against Newent 2nd in Severn Division One, only for the visitors to bag a late winner.

Lucy Debenham and Clare Milton were on target for the city side for whom youngster Alice Steel was the player of the match.

It was a bad weekend for Colwall & Malvern, whose first team went down 5-1 at East Glos in Severn 1 and the second string battered 8-0 at Lansdown 3rd in Severn 3.

Presteigne are still looking for their first win on South Wales Premier 2 after going down to a 3-0 defeat at Haverfordwest.

The home side scored after five minutes but Presteigne defended well under strong pressure until Haverfordwest scored twice in the last 10 minutes.

Sian Bull and Donna Jones shared the player-of-the-match award.

Kington were beaten 1-0 at Rhondda.
