A BRAVE fight-back was not enough to earn Leominster a draw at Wootton Bassett in the North Division of the West Club's Women's League.

The home team, who were a place below Leominster in the table, scored twice in the first half to lead 2-0 at the break.

Liz Ranft pulled one back from a well-timed corner but the hosts scored a third before Kate Holder again reduced arrears.

Wootton Bassett had a player sent off but, despite the efforts of youngest team member and player of the match Alice Bunting, Leominster were unable to find an equaliser.

In Premier 2A, Hereford achieved an excellent 4-0 win at Swindon, while the city club's second string gained a 5-0 success over Cheltenham CS 2nd to maintain their position at the top of Severn Two.

Presteigne shrugged off the potential handicap of being without a number of regulars by winning their top-of-the-table South Wales Women's League Division One clash at Whitchurch Saints 3rds 2-1.

The border club came under heavy early pressure before a break-away found Charlie Morris in a perfect position at the back post to open the scoring.

Saints levelled the scores before the interval but Morris raced away to bag the winner in the second half.

Ellen Jones was player of the match on her debut.

Presteigne bowed out of the Welsh Shield to Premier One Newport with a 5-2 home defeat at the second round stage.

Morris and Rita Tomkins scored the Presteigne goals.
