DESPITE travelling with just a bare 11, Leominster saw off Lansdown 3-1 in a Davis Wood Conference North clash.

After soaking up early pressure, the North Herefordshire club took the lead with a Robbie Goodman breakaway goal.

Leominster defended well up to the break but were caught out early in the second period with the home side grabbing an equaliser.

Leominster worked hard to get back into the game and Jon Davis converted a short corner to restore the lead.

Although Firebrands continued to press, Leominster added a third when Jim Dunn’s pass set up youngster Jonty Goody for a cool finish.

An old boy looked as if he was going to foil the north Herefordshire club second string’s efforts at Newent as former Leominster keeper Alex Newman pulled off a string of good saves to keep the game goalless at the interval.

In-form Leominster stepped up a gear, however, in the second half to romp to a 6-0 win.

Nicko Evans bagged a hat-trick after two goals from Ben Smith had established control. Duncan Trumper scored the other Leominster goal.

Hereford failed to capitalise on large amounts of possession as they went down 1-0 at home to Lansdown.

Lansdown scored the decisive goal just before the interval from a penalty stroke after a foul by Leo Mather.

Mather’s game deteriorated still further in the second period when he was sin-binned for a reckless challenge and Hereford were unable to overcome the handicap of being a goal down to fight back.

Hereford 2nd came unstuck in spectacular style when they were battered 13-0 by Marches One leaders Bourton & Sherborne.

And it was a disappointing day, too, for Ross whose two teams both suffered defeats.

The first-team travelled to Stroud in De Cymru and Marches Two and were beaten 4-1.

Ross 2nd, meanwhile, are still without a win in Marches Two after going down to a 2-1 home reverse to Wotton-under-Edge 3rd.
