STEW Goodarzi fired relegated Hereford to a successful start to their De Cymru and the Marches One programme in the Davis Wood Hockey League with a 3-0 win.

Goodarzi put the city side ahead at Aberystwyth University.

Then, after the home side had rallied strongly at the start of the second period, Goodarzi scored twice more to make the points safe.

Leominster also made a winning start to their campaign in Conference North with a 3-1 win at Swansea City.

Rob Goodman put Leominster after good work by Ed Healey, who then set up a second goal for debutant Connor Diggens.

Man-of-the-match Josh Watkins combined with Healey to set up a second Goodman goal before Swansea grabbed a consolation late on.

A new-look Ross side drew 3-3 with Pembroke County in De Cymru and The Marches Two.

Phil Evans opened the scoring for Ross but Pembroke hit back to lead before Sam Warner levelled.

Tom Walton fired Ross ahead but Pembroke grabbed an equaliser with five minutes to go.

Ross 2nd were beaten 3-1 at Lansdown 4th in The Marches Two but, in The Marches One, Leominster 2nd beat Gloucester City 3rd 3-0.

In the same division, Hereford 2nd drew 2-2 with Lansdown 3rd.

l LEOMINSTER made a dream start to their West Clubs’ Women’s League North Division programme when they hammered Blockley 8-1.

Nina Emery scored a hat-trick, newcomer Sarah Nightingale bagged two and other goals came from Holder, Liz Ranft and Alice Bunting.

Hereford began their Premier Division 2A programme with a 4-2 home defeat by City of Bath, Clare Pritchard and Saskia Ingham getting the goals.

Ross were beaten 4-2 at Lansdown 3rd in Severn Two.

Colwall and Malvern drew 2-2 with Cheltenham 3rd in Severn One, while the club’s second string lost 1-0 to Bretforton 2nd in Severn Three.

Kington found their first outing in Premier Two of the South Wales League tough going, losing 3-0 to Cardiff University 2nd.
