Rocester 1 Westfields 0 LACK of concentration led to Westfields conceding an early goal and they never recovered in spite of showing a lot of endeavour, resulting in their third Midland Alliance defeat of the season.
Westfields stay in second place in the table, but Rocester are now just a point behind them.
One bright spot for the city side was the form of debutant keeper Adam Jones, who quickly adjusted to Alliance football after picking the ball out of the net after just six minutes.
His defence was slow to react to a through ball and Lee Bagley made the most of the time and space to claim the crucial goal.
Jamie Edwards, Tom Sparey and Jamie Cuss all had efforts narrowly off target as the visitors attempted to atone for their slip. It was the Staffordshire side who were hanging on at the break.
The home team picked up after the resumption, forcing Jones to make a couple of decent saves to keep Westfields in the match. Sparey struck the home woodwork from a free kick as Westfields fought back.
The visitors sent on three substitutes in an attempt to salvage a point and Mark Davis had a far-post header saved by the home keeper.
In truth they found it difficult to break down a solid hard-working Rocester defence and the closely-fought battle was settled by the solitary early strike.
