Kidderminster golfer takes Ross Seniors title

THE annual Ross Seniors open was won by Lawrence Walker (Kidderminster) with 40 points.

Ross members Brian Prosser (38 pts) and Gordon Brigg (39) won Handicap Division One and Division Three respectively with Terry Jarrett (37) and Ken Vowles (35) also among the prize-winners.

Ross Senior Brian Clouder fired 36 points to top Handicap Division One at the prestigious St Pierre GC Seniors Open.

Ò Llandrindod pairings John Lambert and Harry Matthews and Builth Wells duo Trevor Price and Peter Riley, who both enjoyed 2 and 1 successes, were the only Brecon and Radnor County Golf Union Seniors winners when they went down 14-4 against Herefordshire and Shropshire Seniors at Llandrindod Wells.

Ò Pegasus Juniors are seeking teams of four to take part in their annual golf day at Burghill Valley GC on Friday, August 17.

The cost of £120 includes a two-course meal, team prizes and prizes for nearest the pin and longest drives.

Ò Cradoc followed up their success in the away leg of the Boathouse Trophy with a 4-2 win over Brecon on home territory.

Dai Lewis and Lew Phillips (3 and 2), Roger Jones and Phil Davies (1 up) and Lou Jones and Aled Lewis (3 and 2) were the winning pairs for Cradoc with Phil James and Tony O’Connor and Paul Exton and Tom Price halving their matches.

Cradoc Seniors have enjoyed mixed fortunes in their inter-club matches.

They were beaten 4½-3½ at the Monmouthshire where their winning pairings were Derek Lloyd and Roger Thornhill (2 and 1), John Nancarrow and Dave Holton (3 and 2) and Roy Morgan and Dave Matthews (4 and 2).

Cyril Teasdale and Bill Sisley halved their match.

But they turned their fortunes around against Burghill Valley, winning by the same score with Derek Lloyd and Mike Mellors (4 and 3), Anthony James and Bill Sisley (6 and 5), Ron Rowsell and Roy Alp (2 and 1) and Derek Butlin and Dave Matthews (1 up) the successful pairings while Derek Brown and Arthur Hughes halved.

Cradoc Seniors were beaten 5-3 by Raglan Park despite successes for Ivan Boreham and Roger Thornhill (2 and 1), John Nancarrow and David Hughes (3 and 1) and Cyril Teasdale and Derek Butlin (5 and 3).

Cradoc Wayfarers beat Mountain Ash 3-2 when the winning pairs were Brian Nelson and Les Gwynne (4 and 3), Steve Mathers and Ken Morgan (2 and 1) and Alan Denning and Gary Jenkins (5 and 4).
