LEOMINSTER members turned out in force to welcome new captain Paul Chapman for the traditional drive-in.

A field of 114 golfers saw Chapman make up the first four-ball with president Brian Hunt, past captain Tony Williams and vice-captain Clive Malcolm.

Kevin Gibbons guessed the distance of Chapman’s 162-yard drive with the proceeds going to the new captain’s chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.

The competition was a tight affair with Dave Botwood (39 points) winning Division One from Jeremy Lawrence (38) and James Richards (37).

Graham Gammage’s 42 points won Division Two from Mark Lane (40) who pipped George Beattie on count-back, while John Callow (41) led the way in Division Three from Jason Culwick (40) and Peter Gurney (39).

Bob Holloway was nearest the pin on the 17th with Shane Jones nearest the pin in two on the 18th.

Ross-on-Wye’s Lady captain Amanda Marshall designated this week’s competition as ‘Dog Day’ to boost her chosen charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Dogs, and their owners, took part in a teams of three bowmaker competition with Christine Downs, Jan Reid and Judith Landau scoring 82 points.
