Kington take a big lead in the second leg of their Hargrove Cup knock-out clash with Patshull Park, after winning comprehensively in the first leg.

All three foursomes were convincing winners as Allan Williams and Matthew Weaver won three up, as did Ross Moore and Josh Davies.

Graham Priday and Ryan West were even more convincing winners, finishing eight up.

n The Shropshire and Herefordshire Golf Partnership are encouraging clubs to achieve the GolfMark standard.

Oswestry member Judith Thornell, winner of the English Golf Union’s volunteer of the year award in 2010, has been appointed Golfmark co-ordinator to try to persuade clubs to join the 13 — including high achievers Kington — who have already achieved the accreditation.

The partnership is also encouraging clubs to recruit new members and is offering a £240 grant to assist in running an open day and follow-up lessons for those who attend.
