ONE of Kington’s longest standing members was recognised with a special award when the club’s seniors held their annual lunch and award ceremony.

John Williams, who is 86, has been a Kington member since 1967 and was club captain in 1975, received the agerelated medal.

“John’s golf is still very respectable, putting many of us to shame around the greens,” said club spokesman Terry Weight.

“He is known throughout the club as one of our great gentlemen.”

Another long-standing member, Joe James, received the senior sportsman of the year award. Joe has supported the seniors committee in many ways,” said Weight.

“He can always be relied upon to step in and help, for example as team captain at short notice when the nominated captain is not available.”
