Father-and-son duo carry off Canadian Pairs trophy

CARL Rose shot a gross 71 to win the Division 1 section of the Lombard Trophy at Burghill Valley.

However, Ally Thomas was the overall winner with a nett 63.

Father-and-son Jon and Ben Carter triumphed in a hotly-contested Canadian Pairs competition.

The Carters beat Theo Cook and Sam Hunt on a countback after both teams shot 39 points.

Phil Harrison and Gary Bradbury won the men’s Winter League Pairs event.

They held off the challenge from the runners-up, Andy Brace and Stuart Griffiths.

March Stableford, Division 1: 1 Alex Wilson 38 points, 2 Chris Yarwood 32 points, 3 Ben Carter 24 points; Division 2: 1 M Sandford 38 points, 2 A Holmes 36 points, 3 K Winsor 35 points; Division 3: 1 D Brown 36 points, 2 J Mumford 33 points, 3 H Davies 32 points.

Graham Davies was the winner of the Herefordshire Seniors’ Stableford competition after firing 37 points.

Cecil Morgan finished second and Reg Dudman after both players carded 35 points.

Herefordshire Seniors secured a 5½ to 2½ home victory over Sapey.

Veteran Terry Harding, with 40 points, clinched first place in the club’s April Stableford event in wet and windy conditions.

Adam Herbert was the runner-up with 39 points, while third-place in the low section went to former captain Norman Sockett.

Rick Shallcross won the high section on a countback from John Hayward after both players carded 39 points.

Hughie Slade secured third spot, with 37 points, after a countback from Steve Radziejowski.

The Herefordshire GC’s Wyn Owen was part of the team which won the County Seniors’ pre-season away day at Aberdovey.

Owen was in a team with Ludlow’s Gordon Reynolds, Sandy Johnston (Llanymynech) and Gordon Taylor (Shrewsbury) Owen’s team fired 65 points which put them two points ahead of the second-placed team that included The Hereford-shire’s Roy Joshua.

Another player from The Herefordshire, Cliff Mawby, was part of the team which finished fourth with 61 points.

Mike Dyer was the overall winner of the Harpton Cup at Kington.

Dyer fired a winning score of 81-15-66.

George Smith (76-8-68) triumphed in Division 1, while Ross Moore (74-5-69) took second place.

Phil Jones triumphed in Division 2 after firing 81-13-68, with Colin Mansell (80-11-69) taking the runners-up spot.

Tracy Sandford (85-16-69) won Division 3 from second-placed Marcel Veillet (89-18-71).

Anita Dart was the highest-placed lady competitor in the field with 88-14-74.

Dyer has made it through in the area PGA Pro-Am and is teaming up with club professional Andy Gealy for the regional event.

Seniors’ captain John Weaver led from the front in round one of the Seniors’ Summer League.

He won Division 1 with a crushing 43-point total from second-placed Frank Goodwin (40 points) and third-placed John A Williams (35 points).

Tony Humphries scored 36 points to take top spot in Division 2.

George Farr was the runner-up with 34 points, while Phil Gould was third with 32 points.

Gareth Powell, Dai Lewis and Tom Price won Cradoc’s annual Wayleave Trophy for teams of three after a combined Stableford score of 110.

John Drain, Padam Gurung and Yubaraj Garbuja secured second place with 107 points.

R Hudman, Alan Harries and Ken Williams took third spot with 99 points.

Cradoc Seniors recorded a 5½ to 1½ home win against Llandrindod Wells Seniors in their third friendly of the season.

Cradoc won four matches, three of which were achieved on the 17th and 18th green.

The winning pairs were Colin Rosser and Dave Pinniger, Dave Eddon and John Silk, Eric Russell and David Evans and Derek Lloyd and Maurice Church.

Halves were achieved by Ron Jones and John Nancarrow, Allan Mason and Vernon Bartlett and Rick Jones and Chris Openshaw.

Steve Fletcher won the Professional’s Cup at Leominster on a countback from second-placed James Morgan and third-placed Ian Frazer after all three players finished 1-up.

Sam Morris achieved 5-up to win the Bossom Bowl, while Jeremy Finney (2-up) took second spot on a countback from Ernie Sznapka.

Ben Lloyd shot 78-6-72 to win the 0-12 handicap section of the April medal at Belmont.

Richard Lloyd secured second place after firing 78-5-73.

Steve Powell (87-14-73) won the 13-28 section, while Tony Catchpole was the runner-up with 88-13-75.

Geoff Preece has carried off the seniors’ Lancaster Plate after carding 95-23-72.

Alan May was second, with 85-11-74, while Des Samuel took third spot with 90-16-74.

Ross-on-Wye’s Senior squad remain unbeaten in friendlies this season after a comfortable 4 points to 2 win at Worcester Golf and Country Club.

The club’s B team enjoyed a hard-fought halved friendly match against visiting Worcester Golf and County Club, while the Ross C team secured a convincing 5 points to 1 success against visiting Droitwich C in a friendly.
