THERE was a changing of the guard at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club recently when the club held their Annual General Meeting.

Kim Hampson completed an effective year as men's captain during which he raised £4, 274 for his chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK.

He recently travelled to the Urology Department within the Macmillan Renton Unit at the County Hospital in Hereford where £499 of the money raised together with £101 donation from member Patrick Curtis will purchase a Clinitek Status analyser. The use of this equipment automates and improves the accuracy of urine samples for the early diagnosis of urological cancers.

Newly elected club captain, Robert Tuttiett kick started his year with a 'Drive-in' event with a full field of 100 members.

Involving teams of four with a shotgun start the Florida Scramble medal team event got underway and was won by Peter Cliffe, Geoff Robinson, Robin Butler and Robin Smith with a model round of 60.8.

Clarkson Barclay was grateful that his short game helped him collect the nearest the pin prize for his shot to the 12th green.

Liam Greig has been appointed their juniors captain despite being a relative newcomer to the Gorsley based club.

Greig is currently furthering his interests in the game through study at Hartpury College and has quickly shown his exceptional talent for the game which saw him collect several trophies at the Club's Annual Prize ceremony including the 'most improved player' award during a year which witnessed his handicap fall to six.

Greig's predecessor Cam Haines, currently a three handicapper, is 2017 Ross Men's Club Champion and he succeeded Sophie Price who plays off an eight handicap and was Ross Lady Champion in 2015 and 2017.

Former junior captain Niall Powell, a scratch performer, is fondly remembered by members and remains an integral part of the Ross Club even though he is currently embarking upon a golfing scholarship at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, USA.
