ROSS Golf Club's men's 'A' team have bounced straight back up to Division One of the North Gloucestershire Foursomes Leagues.

With just one defeat all season in the 10 match programme, the team's 16 points made them worthy champions, pipping fellow promoted rivals Stinchcombe Hill by four points.

The Ross squad then took part in the end of season trophy presentation event when all NGFL affiliated clubs are invited to compete for the coveted annual NGFL Cup.

This is a scratch medal competition with each club represented by four pairings, with the top three scores determining the overall winners.

For the Ross team, performances of gross 75 scores were made by Steve Wallbank and Alastair Watkins and Arthur Cartwright and Robin Eckley, while Stephen Price and Simon Mills hit a gross 81.

That means that their gross 231 total headed the final scoresheet, but tied with the Minchinhampton GC squad, who were playing on their home course.

With the result of each team's fourth pairing deciding the champions, the gross 81 score by Ross team captain Neil Lancett and last year's club captain, Warren Moore, saw the cup return to the Wye Valley based team for the first time following the narrowest of countback. margins.

Lancett has been managing the squad for several years, which has resulted in several junior academy players being successfully introduced to the competitive form of adult golf, adding to their development and improvement.
