THE new ladies captain of The Herefordshire Golf Club had a special cheer when she drove off.

Jan Preece’s twin sister Jenny Cooke is her vice-captain, while other family members are also part of the Wormsley-based club.

“Jenny’s daughter Charlotte also plays as does her five-year-old son William,” explained Preece.

“It’s very unusual and unique to have a set of twins as captain and vice-captain – I don’t know if there any other clubs who have any. We were both teachers, but when we retired we were able to play more. I thought it would be a good idea for Jenny to be my vice-captain because it means we can do things together.”

Preece’s chosen charity for the year is Breast Cancer Now and the players wore pink to show their support.

The ladies also took part in a specially laid-on fashion show, run in conjunction with new director of golf Stuart Rank and Glenmuir.

“This was a great chance to showcase the new club crest and highlight the new colour ranges for 2017,” said Rank.

“The ladies loved it and these types of events can only enhance their experience and bring everyone together.”

Rank is hoping to raise the club’s profile, which has including relaunching their website.

“I wanted to create a fresher, more modern look and a website that was more user-friendly and up-to-date, promoting all the great things of club life,” he said.

“I can’t wait for the forthcoming season and implementing many of my ideas. I’ve also looked at membership categories with a view to encouraging younger golfers. The aim is to improve the whole member and visitor experience from the moment people walk through the door to the moment they leave and to make The Herefordshire Golf Club, the members’ club in the region.”

The club are also hosting a pre-season launch event on Saturday, April 8, which will run alongside the men’s captain’s drive-in.
