TWO well-supported annual events at Ross Golf Club to celebrate the festive period enabled many of the male members to be rewarded with some suitable Christmas prizes

Despite the bad weather, the stableford Christmas competition attracted 84 members and saw two seniors, each with 39 points, contesting for the Christmas hamper prize.

Despite Phil Bull having eagle and birdie scores on his card, it was Martin Pimlow's better back nine holes score of 19 points which enabled him to come out on top.

The pair were were followed by Graham White and Philip Thompson with 38 points each, with 2016 seniors champion Dave Hart, Colin Price, Paul Warwick, Jonathan McGinley and Tim Fewell all scoring 37.

The 36 pointers were Adrian Hope, Adrian Berry, Steve Wallbank, Jeremy Picton-Turberville, Tim Lewis and Dave Higdon.

A few days earlier it had been the turn of 66 Ross seniors to take part in their Christmas Singles 16-hole stableford competition and were blessed with ideal winter golfing conditions. The in-form Colin Price again took centre stage with a highly impressive 41 stableford points score which was equivalent to him playing a massive 11 shots better than his 16 handicap in a round which included 2 birdies.

Another in-form player, Tim Fewell with 39 points, was runner-up, followed by Nick Swan and David Crocker with 38 points each.

Wref Digings carded 37, with Tim Rigden and David Price scoring 36 and Phil Corcoran and Terry Savage with 35.

Meanwhile, the ladies held their annual nine-hole Christmas Bowmaker and lunch.

The bowmaker on the front nine was won by Marie-Ann Belton, Julia Wilde and Amanda Marshall with a stableford score of 40 points, while Lesley Ross, Fiona Lucas and Julie Jones' score of 32 points was enough to win on the back nine.

Meanwhile, a number of prizes were handed out prior to the lunch.

Jennie Freel was third in the county in the bronze division of the Kit Kat Cup, Alison Harvey was presented with a certificate for her hole in hone at Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club in the Fraser Foursomes and Ruth Pimlow was presented with The Mercia Castle Cup for the best stableford score in the county.
