CHARLIE Walker won the latest round of Ross Golf Club's Annual Layton Cup after pipping Graham Laws in an exciting contest.

The trophy is competed for by the club's senior male members and the champion each year emerges from the total of his three stableford points rounds in a six-rounds competition played throughout the summer.

The fourth round attracted a very healthy 100 members and enabled 11-handicappers Walker and Laws and top the final scoreboard with 43 points,

Both recorded 10 pars, with Walker claiming two birdies and Laws three.

But because Walker negotiated the more challenging homeward-bound holes more tidily, he took the bragging rights on the day on countback, with both earning one shot handicap reductions.

Laws recently had his first hole in one for the Ross seniors team in a friendly match at Cotswold Hills Golf Club near Cheltenham and this reflects his current good form.

John Tecke, who is also enjoying a fine season, was third with 41 points, followed by Phil MacFarlane and David Haggar (40 points each) and David Whitehead and Paul Meddings, who scored 39.

A host of 38 pointers was headed by Jim Hamilton, Mike Lawrence, John Palmer, Tim Lewis, Peter Chapman and Bill Knapper.

After four rounds, Palmer heads the table for the Layton Cup with 113 points, while Walker has taken the top spot for the Electric Cup.

Meanwhile, another player who achieved a hole-in-one was 16-year-old Cam Haines.

The teenager, a six handicapper, secured his perfect ace on the seventh green.
