WARREN Moore has driven into Ross Golf Club as their new captain for the next year.

And to celebrate the news, a Florida Scramble Medal competition took place that attracted 24 teams of four members.

It proved to be a closely contested affair, with the top spot earned by Mabel Day, Tim Wyatt, Murray Thomson and Kingsley Matthews with a 61.4 score.

Matthew Hillier, Matthew Blythe, Martin Pimlow and John Sherahillo were runners-up with 62.3, leaving Paul Cresswell, Barry Norton, Robin Butler and Charles Reeve-Tucker in third place with 62.4

There were also nearest to the pin prizes for Lady Captain Annette Mansie and Ralph Gallagher.

Moore's vice-captain is Kim Hampson.

Meanwhile, Neville Owens has stepped down as club president following two successful years.

During his 20 years with the club, Owens had been captain in 2004 and 2012, been Honorary Secretary, chairman of the management committee and chaired the sub-committee which saw the club through a highly successful centenary year in 2003. He had always been a capable golfer with his name appearing on several of the honours Boards which adorn the clubhouse lounge.
